Catching Up

Ok, here’s my best attempt at getting you caught up since my last blog.  We left for Oklahoma on Friday, Dec. 21.  Traffic was fine except the 45 minutes it took us to get through Hillsboro.  UGH!

Saturday, Dec. 22
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, B1!  I can’t believe I’m the mother of a teenagers!  Where did the time go?  What a wonderful young man he’s turning out to be!  B1 was born 7 days past his due date and weighed 9 lbs 2 oz.  He has had lots of energy since day 1, never requiring much sleep.  (Todd and I threw out all of the baby books we read that said newborns sleep 16-20 hours a day!)  B1 has brought us much laughter and joy.  He is a perfectionist and loves sports (esp. football and basketball).  We bought him a Little Tykes basketball goal for his 2nd birthday and he got mad when the ball didn’t go through the hoop on the first try.  As a young student, he would throw away his drawing and start over if he messed up or something didn’t turn out the way he wanted.  In 7th grade, he works very hard to make straight A’s.  He plays football and basketball and expects his team to win every time.  B1 has watched OU and the Dallas Cowboys play football since he was 5.  To this day, he gets very upset if they loose.  He is very knowledgeable about football, how the rankings work, and the history of the games and players.  It is exciting to watch him grow and mature.  We are so blessed to have B1 as our son!  We love you, B1!

Sunday, Dec. 23
We went to our old church, First Baptist East.  It was  good to see lots of our friends.  We really enjoyed visiting with everyone after service.  That evening we went to our good friend, Miss Kelly’s house.  We played Nertz and I had a successful evening on the score sheet!

Monday, Dec. 24
Mom and I spent the day doing some baking and Todd went to visit his mom.  The cousins played.  B1 talked my dad into going to Wal-Mart to get a basketball goal.  So, most of the afternoon was spent putting that together.  We spent Christmas Eve evening at my Grandma Taylor’s house.  It’s tradition that we all meet here, eat pizza and open presents.  Cousins from California and Wyoming were there.  How nice to have most of the cousins together.  All of dad’s siblings were there.  When we finished, we went back to my parent’s house to open gifts from them.  The rest of the evening we spent visiting while the cousins played.

Tuesday, Dec. 25
Christmas Day we went back to my Grandma Taylor’s for lunch, then went to Elgin to see Todd’s family.  Todd has 3 older brothers but we only got to see the oldest brother’s family and his mom.   The #2 and #3 brothers were unable to join us.  After dinner, we went back to my parent’s house and the cousins played some more.

Wednesday, Dec. 26
This was a relaxing day.  We mostly sat around and watched movies while the cousins played 4 square, basketball, and Wii.  In the evening, my brother and sister came over, so we had a housefull.

Thursday, Dec. 27
Today was the day that we planned our annual “Play in the Park.”  This is a day where we invite the kids’ friends from their old school to come play.  Lawton doesn’t have a place like Gattitown where we could meet INSIDE out of the COLD and WIND!  The adults and the girls didn’t stay long.  We went to Braum’s for hot chocolate and the boys stayed a while longer to play football.  The kids had a great time!

Friday, Dec. 28
Today my dad had a doctor’s appt in Oklahoma City.  We were at their house with all of the cousins, so Shelly put them to work dusting, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, and taking down the Christmas decorations.  It only took about 2 hours since we had so many helpers!  Good job, everyone!

Later in the afternoon, we went to town (my parents live in Cache, right outside of Lawton) and did a little shopping.  We met friends for dinner at our “usual” place.  These friends, the McKnights, are very dear to us.  Todd and Shean were roommates in college, so they go back a few years.  Our daughters were born 6 weeks apart and are the best of friends.  They have twins, almost 2 years younger.  Great kids!  Lots of fun!  Shean is in med school at St. Marteen, so we don’t get to see them often.  We had a wonderful evening!

Saturday, Dec. 29
A day to hang out and let the kids play.

Sunday, Dec. 30
Shelly went shopping with her mom and s-i-l, Christy.  Todd took B1 and B2 shopping.  The kids had Christmas money burning a hole in their pockets.  Our good friend, Miss Kelly, came out to my parents house and we played games until 2:30 am.  Just like the old days!  How fun!!!  Miss Kelly won in Nertz and Todd won in dominoes.  Shelly was the biggest looser!

Monday, Dec. 31
Today, we went to McKnight twins birthday party/Mrs. McKnight’s birthday party/New Year’s Eve party at the Jones’.  This was very fun and we got to see friends from Tulsa.  Around 7pm, we headed back to my parents.  My sister and her family spent the evening with us and welcomed in the New Year.  I was the biggest looser in Phase 10.

Today, we loaded the van and headed home!  We had a wonderful time in Oklahoma, but we were all ready to go to our own house.  We’ve never been gone that long before.  We made it home in only 5 1/2 hours.  Our dogs were very glad to see us.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year’s!  Hopefully on our next trip we can see some friends that we weren’t able to see this time.  We love you all!  I will post pictures soon.
